Hair loss can present in many ways, from thinning to patches to complete baldness – and it doesn’t just affect the head. Many people also experience hair loss from the beard and even the eyebrows. Whether you are considering a hair transplant on the head or, beard transplant or eyebrow transplant, at AHI Clinic in London, we believe that everyone should feel incredible, and we have the tools and the specialist knowledge to help!

This is the first in a series of blogs that takes a look at some of the most common types of hair loss and how AHI Hair Transplant Clinic can help you regain your lovely locks. We’re going to start with this post being all about the Bald Patch.

What is a Bald patch and how can a hair transplant clinic help?

Bald patches are one of the most common complaints for men when it comes to their hair. They usually start with thinning and gradually as more hair is lost over time, the result can be a pronounced patch (usually front – temporal areas and on the top of the head , the crown) where the hair no longer grows. A bald patch can occur for many reasons including;

  • Genetics – it’s more likely that if members of your immediate family suffer from hair loss, you could inherit this trait too.
  • Lifestyle – do you have a stressful life, excessively wear a tight hat, rub your head anxiously or pull at your hair? Surprisingly, hair loss can be self inflicted without intent!
  • Health – it’s helpful to look at your overall health as some conditions as well as medications can contribute towards extensive hair loss.

Once a bald spot has developed, men will often resort to covering up with either a hat, a hairpiece or hair from the side of the head can be combed across to help disguise the extent of the hair loss, or by contrast, shaving the head in its entirety and embracing their new shaven look. If none of these options are appealing to you, there are ways to help restore the growth of hair. Plasma therapy is a non surgical option that can be effective in reinvigorating the follicles to aid growth. This involves blood being extracted, spun in a centrifuge and separated so that the plasma (which is rich in stimulants) can be re-injected into the scalp to help bump-start hair growth. The benefits of this procedure is that it is non-invasive, and relatively pain free with no downtime. However, the results take longer, will need to be continually maintained with further treatments and we can’t guarantee the extent of re-growth that may be required. Therefore, at AHI Hair Transplant Clinic in London, we will discuss whether this is likely to be an effective solution for you at your consultation. The second option is Hair Transplant Surgery.

Bald patch solutions at AHI Clinic

We offer surgical solutions for all types of hair loss concerns including our most popular treatments FUE hair transplant and FUT hair transplant. Depending on the amount and area of concern, we would discuss both options during your consultation. FUE Hair Transplant Surgery involves individual hairs being taken from a donor site which is usually back and sides of head and implanted to the bald spot (you can find out more about FUE Hair Transplant Surgery in London here). This is suitable for smaller areas, or areas that require less rejuvenation. FUT Hair Transplant Surgery takes a long  strip of  skin with the donor hair which are then cut in to smaller units called grafts to be implanted in the area of hair loss. This is often suitable when the area of concern is extensive (you can find out more about FUT hair transplant surgery here). The benefits of hair transplant surgery are vast. With little downtime, this can be an ideal way to permanently restore lost hair and give you back your confidence in as little as a single sitting. Whilst this is a more expensive option, the cost of hair transplant surgery in London ranges from between £2,500 to £7,500 on average, but with being a one off permanent treatment it definitely works out to be financially more viable in the long run as opposed to non-surgical solutions.
