Patchy Beard

Having a patchy beard is a common male concern that AHI has provided a safe and effective solution for. A patchy beard may appear as bald patches in the facial hair, or as uneven growth around the mid and lower parts of the face. This condition can cause aesthetic disappointment for many men, especially in an age where a full beard is considered to be a desirable feature.

There are a number of causes for a patchy beard, or loss of facial hair. The concern may be genetic, which means facial hair will naturally grow this way. In other cases, a man may find his facial hair has become thinner over time, or is developing isolated patches of hair loss. Factors such as poor diet, disease, nutritional imbalance, stress, grooming mishaps or declining hormone levels (often as part of the ageing process) can influence these changes in the usual pattern of growth. A condition called alopecia areata is more commonly known to affect the head. It causes small, round bald patches to appear within the hair, which will often grow back naturally after a while.

This concern can also affect facial hair, and as it is often shorter than the hair that grows on the head, can be quite noticeable to others.

A patchy beard or uneven facial hair can easily be treated at AHI Clinic using the FUE technique. Also referred to as Follicular Unit Excision, this procedure extracts pieces of hair-bearing skin and transplants them where hair growth is thin or has been lost. Donor hairs are taken from areas of fuller hair growth, such as the back of the head, and can be used to restore the beard, moustache or sideburns. We conduct a thorough consultation at AHI to ensure the procedure is the right solution for the patient’s particular concerns.

frequently asked questions

The beard transplant can be used for men who are concerned with the way their facial hair grows. Genetics can influence the natural growth pattern, with factors such as ageing and scarring contributing to areas of hair loss. This procedure can be helpful to those who wish to achieve a fuller, thicker beard that has well-defined hairline contours.

FUE (Follicular Unit Excision) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) are safe and effective methods of hair restoration. AHI uses advanced surgical techniques and modern devices to ensure the procedure works in the best interests of the patient’s well-being.

Most patients will agree that this procedure can be a little uncomfortable. AHI Clinic ensures their patient’s will stay comfortable throughout the procedure, using a local anaesthetic to numb the treatment area.

Swelling, redness and bruising, both at the implant site and at the donor site are to be expected following the procedure. Within 3 – 5 days you can expect these effects to ease, and you should not be alarmed if you notice that some hairs have naturally expelled.

It may take up to 6 months for the growth of facial hair to become noticeably thick and full. Within 12 – 18 months the new hair growth will be fully mature and the final results of the transplant are evident. Once fully established your facial hair should be fuller looking and more healthy.
